MEALS on WHEELS

Trinity Episcopal Church is an active participant in the Anoka-Champlin Meal on Wheels program.  Meals on Wheels provides a warm meal and a daily check-in to the homebound, disabled and seniors in the cities of Anoka and Champlin and has been doing so since 1973.  Anoka County Meals on Wheels has also been in a 35-year partnership with Mercy Hospital, which allows Meals on Wheels to send out some of the best meals in the Twin Cities.  The meals are low-cost so those in need can afford them, but this is done through contributions from the community.  A meal from this program meets 1/3 of the daily RDA guidelines and consists of a hot portion (meat, starch and vegetables) and cold portion (beverage, bread, margarine, salad and dessert).  There is generally one major menu change per year.

Julie Johnson, of Trinity, is the Vice Chair and Volunteer Coordinator.  Paul Barks, also from Trinity, is a Board Member.

Delivering Meals on Wheels takes about an hour and around 1-2 gallons of gasoline.  Many volunteers take a friend with and go out to lunch after the meals are delivered.
If you would like to help with Meals on Wheels, contact Julie Johnson.  If you would like to participate in the "Adopt a Senior" program, which helps provide meals, contact
Beth Shanley at Mercy Hospital (763) 236-8717 or e-mail her at
