Back in 1858, when Minnesota first became a state and the state was frontier, Trinity Episcopal Church became one of the first parishes in Anoka and the state of Minnesota. The congregation outgrew two churches and in the early 1960's relocated from Jackson Street to its present location on Sixth Avenue. On September 14, 2008, the Trinity family celebrated 150 years as a parish in Minnesota.
Many parishioners dressed as pionieers of 1858. Bishop Jelinek and Fr. Matthews led the worship service together. Bishop Jelinek spoke to the congregation of how well Trinity is doing, thriving not striving. After the service, the festivities began. A meal of beef brisket, delicious root vegetables and dessert was served. Tom and Debbie Eckstein and friends played music at the service and throughout the meal. Then activities, such as a horseshoe tournament and quilt raffle took place. May Rod was the lucky winner of the beautiful quilt made by several women of the parish. In celebration of the occasion, a new parish cookbook is also in process of being published and can be pre-ordered. Approximately 150 people attended, and many friends near and far returned to Trinity to help honor and celebrate this special occasion. A huge THANK YOU to all who participated in organizing, working, cooking, decorating, etc. to make this a wonderful memory and celebration of a fantastic parish family.
